Illegal Mining: What legacy are we leaving for the next generation- K.O Akufo

Illegal Miners Are Not The Only Problems Of The Mining Sector – CSSMA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A commissioner for Oaths at the Accra High Court Mr K.O Akufo has said that the continuous degradation of farmlands, forests, and water bodies through illegal mining is worrying and also cries for future generations.

Speaking with Nana Yaw Abrompah on Plan B FM’s morning show NKOSUONSEM, Mr. Akufo stated that the fight against illegal mining in the country is not up to expectations after President Akufo Addo vowed to vacate the presidency if the galamsey menace is not stopped,

“Although the President said it but state agencies and officials tasked to fight the galamsey activities are not up to the task” he said

He stressed that, if the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) continues with nepotism, favoritism, and tribalism, there will be nothing left for future generations, the lands, forests, water bodies, and all the minerals will be devoured by foreign nationals.

He therefore asked the government, ministries, and agencies in charge of the galamsey fight to strengthen themselves and be bold to arrest and prosecute persons engaged and behind Illegal mining activities no matter their political affiliation to save the land, forests, and water bodies for generations to come.
