Chinese illegal miners have stormed Jimira forest reserve in Ashanti Region.

They have invaded the forest reserve with over 60 excavators and other mining machines.

Sources close to our news team indicate that, over 60 excavators were deployed to the reserve under the Nkawie Forestry District Services Division.

The miners’ activities have resulted in the destruction of all plantations made so far, causing damage to the ecosystem. The forestry staff, tasked with protecting the reserve, are being threatened by the miners, further exacerbating the situation.

The Jimira Forest Reserve is a vital component of Ghana’s natural heritage, providing habitat for numerous species and supporting the livelihoods of local communities. The destruction caused by the Chinese illegal miners poses a great threat to biodiversity, water sources, and the well-being of indigenous people.

They say the government and relevant authorities must take action to halt the destruction and protect the Jimira Forest Reserve.

“The destruction of the Jimira Forest Reserve by Chinese illegal miners is a reminder of the threats facing Ghana’s natural resources. Urgent action is required to protect the reserve, uphold the law, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” they stressed.
