Residents of Konomgo Odumase in the Asante Akyem Central were greeted with bad news on Thursday morning when the death of Papa Adu Gyamfi, a herbal doctor broke out. Papa Adu Gyamfi, 63, was a herbalist who gave his drugs for free to the sick and only charged few pesewas from able individuals after their healings. He will never take any money from you for giving you his drugs, said residents as they wailed and shared tears before the Konongo Odumase Police carried his body away.
Papa before getting into drugs manifestation and healing was a pastor and regional head for the Eastern Regional Kristo Asafo congregants; a position he held for ten years before retiring from active service in 2017. The 63-year-old herbalist on Wednesday evening received an anonymous call from one of his nephews, Enoch Gyamfi that, Enoch was sick and had been admitted at the Krofrom Clinic in Kumasi.
Enoch was named after Papa Adu Gyamfi and their relationship has been more than father and son rather uncle and nephew. Papa treated Enoch as his son and even named him as a son on Enoch’s birth certificate, and that made it trouble for him to ignore whenever Enoch was in trouble.
Papa couldn’t do anything when the anonymous call came to him on Wednesday evening and wanted to leave his residence at Konongo Akranteabesa to Krofrom, where Enoch is alleged to have been admitted to a clinic. He had no idea he was been set up by unknown individuals, the wife Martha Adjoa Gyamfi confirmed.
Papa left home on early Thursday morning to Kumasi but was murdered on the Konongo to Kumasi road around 3 am. Doctors at Steward Hospital Mortuary after examining the body last night confirmed, he was hit with an object from the back of his head before he was shot. He was already dead from the head wounds even before the unknown men shot him, the report said.
Although nobody has been confirmed to be the one behind Papa’s death, the police are investigating a possible connection which the wife; Martha Gyamfi alleges could have been the cause of his husband’s death. Martha alleged that his husband’s phone was on speaker when he was talking to the anonymous caller on Wednesday evening, and from his phone logs, the same caller called him a few minutes after 3:30 am yesterday before murdering him.
It was a planned attack and I suspect the owner of a half plot of land adjacent to our land, Martha said. Martha is assured a half plot of land which shares a boundary with their land might have lead to his husband’s death. The owner of the half plot; Alhaji Mamud, has been threatening my husband that we have taken his land and if he doesn’t give the land back, he will teach him a lesson.
I think he knows something about my husband’s death, Martha said in her report to the Konongo Odumase police. The police are investigating the cause of Papa Adu Gyamfi’s death and will be filing for a warrant for the arrest of Ahaji Mamud this morning at the Konongo Odumasi magistrate courthouse. The suspect doesn’t live in Konongo so we will be getting a court order for his arrest which will aid as search for him wherever he is, Police Officer Bernard Kafui said in assuring the residents of justice for Papa Adu Gyamfi.
