Grieving widow cries out as neighbor demolishes her house and clinic at East Legon

Grieving widow cries out as neighbor demolishes her house and clinic at East Legon

A grieving Ghanaian widow, Faustina Prempeh, has called on the state to intervene in her case after a neighbor demolished her property at East Legon following the death of her husband.

According to her, after the passing of her husband, Dr. Abeyie Boakye Atonsah, a neighbor named Theophilus Teiku Tagoe claimed ownership of their land.

Preparing to lay her husband to rest, the widow said she was shocked to wake up one morning to find Tagoe had brought police officers and land guards to ransack her property, with a bulldozer ready to demolish it.

She disclosed to the media that the property, which housed their residence on the top floor and a medical facility on the ground floor, was demolished by the perpetrators.

Faustina Prempeh also reported losing important documents, a significant amount of money, and medicinal drugs worth GHC200,000 in the demolition.

“I woke up to see that our house had been surrounded by six police cars with fully armed personnel. I was shocked when I saw the bulldozer because I haven’t even laid my husband to rest,” she told the media at a press briefing on Tuesday, August 8, 2024.

Since the demolition, she noted that portions of their property have been encroached upon by Tagoe.

Despite efforts to seek redress, she revealed that all avenues have yielded no solution.

She is now pleading with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Dampare, to come to her aid.

“We want peace in this house. My husband bought the land and was even putting up a clinic. I want to plead with the IGP because the supposed land does not fall within this jurisdiction,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Nungua Stool, Rev. Gyasi Ankrah, has stated that Tagoe has not acquired his land within their territory.
