In order to safeguard lives and property during the rainy season, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has advised to be cautious during the rainy season.
In an interview with Ohene Kinnah on Plan B FM’s ‘Ebaanosen’ PRO for GNFS Tema Region, Ebenezer Ayensu expressed concern over the tendency of people to rush home through the rain rather than seek safer shelter.
He highlighted several dangers, including the risk of being struck by flying objects, falling electrical wires or poles, and impaired visibility.
Mr. Ayensu also advised the public, especially parents, to always switch off all electrical gadgets when leaving the house. He emphasized that electrical fittings should ideally be checked before the onset of the rainy season.
As the rains intensify, walls can become wet and weaker, increasing the risk of electrocution if electrical connections are not properly maintained, he warned. Power fluctuations can cause sparks in sockets, potentially leading to fires.
He further advised parents not to let their children sleep close to walls, especially in mud houses, and to avoid passing wires under carpets, as these practices can be hazardous.
