The Assin Foso Fire Service Station Officer DO3 Paul Tawiah has disclosed to the media that, a survey conducted by their service on the recent rise of fire outbreaks at market places across the country indicates that activities of ghetto boys are a primary catalyst of fire insurrection.

In an interview with a section of the media, DO3 Tawiah noted that most of these ghetto boys do not properly quench the left-over pieces of cigarette and Indian hemp they smoke in the market places. He added that these negligent attitude of these ghetto boys have led to major fire outbreaks in several market places across the country.

Continuing he advised traders at various market centres to desist from using quack or unprofessional electricians for their electrical installation in their shops at these various market places. He said the use of these quack electricians have also led to some number of fire outbreak and added that a change in attitude would drastically reduce these fire outbreaks.

“We appeal to traders in the various markets to desist from engaging these quack electricians. Their activities pose a threat to all of them, their shops and goods, so if they do not stop using them the number of fire outbreaks will not reduce in these markets” he remarked.

Concluding, he urged traders to immediately stop the practice where they use parts of the market for cooking. He said if care is not taken under such situation, they would be fire outbreak.

“Most market structures are made of wood and metal sheets. Such materials are highly combustible and when burnt refuse are not properly handled at the market, the end result may be disastrous” DO 3 Tawiah concluded.
