A middle-aged Ghanaian man identified as Musah Sidi has tragically died in Mecca while performing the Tawaf ritual at the Haram.

The incident, announced by the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG), stated that the deceased, aged 53, was a prospective pilgrim.

According to PAOG in a statement dated Friday, May 22, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Director of Communications, the incident occurred when the deceased collapsed during the circumambulation of the Kaaba, a central rite of the Hajj pilgrimage, and passed away shortly afterwards.

“The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) regrets to officially announce the passing of Mr Musah Sidi (53), a Ghanaian prospective pilgrim, who collapsed at the Haram during tawaf (Circumambulation), the ritualistic act of walking in a circular or circuitous path around the Kabah or sacred space, passed away shortly afterwards,” the statement partly stated.

The office confirmed that the bereaved family has been informed of his death, and arrangements are underway for his burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

PAOG further indicated that the body is being prepared for Janazah prayers after Jumu’ah prayers, before interment.

The office described the passing as significant in Islamic tradition, noting that dying while engaged in acts of worship is regarded as a blessed ending.

“Passing away while performing Tawaf is considered a profound blessing and a sign of a beautiful ending for a blessed Muslim.

“In Islamic tradition, a pilgrim who dies in a state of worship and in Ihram is promised immense spiritual honor in the hereafter,” the statement added.

PAOG extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, praying for forgiveness and eternal peace for him.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his immediate family, sympathizers and loved ones. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” it said.
