The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Ghana have commended Team Ghana for what they describe as an inspiring performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, praising the athletes for their determination, resilience and commitment throughout the competition.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the GOC/CGA said Team Ghana competed against some of the Commonwealth’s finest athletes and, despite the stiff competition, delivered performances that brought pride and honour to the nation.
The committee paid special tribute to Ghana’s medal winners, with Zinabu Issah claiming silver in the women’s shot put, Amadu Mohammed securing bronze in the men’s 55kg boxing event, and the men’s 4x100m relay quartet of Joseph Paul Amoah, Mustapha Bokpin, Saminu Rasheed-Abdul and Benjamin Azamati earning praise for their teamwork, speed and determination against world-class opposition.
The GOC/CGA also lauded athletes who represented Ghana across athletics, para athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, swimming, para swimming, para powerlifting and weightlifting, noting that even those who narrowly missed out on medals contributed significantly to Ghana’s campaign.
The committee expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, corporate partners, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, team management, the media, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Ghanaian community in Scotland for their support throughout the Games.
Looking ahead, the GOC/CGA said the experience gained in Glasgow would provide a strong foundation for preparations towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with an emphasis on improved preparation, athlete development and stronger support systems.
The committee concluded that Team Ghana’s success should not be measured solely by medals but also by the courage, unity, resilience and fighting spirit displayed throughout the Games, congratulating the athletes for making the nation proud.
