GH¢3 Billion invested in Planting for food and jobs didn’t materialized- Movement For Change

GH¢3 Billion invested in Planting for food and jobs didn’t materialized- Movement For Change
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) has accused government of ‘wasting financial resources’ under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

In the mid-year budget presented to Parliament on July 23 2024, government has spent nearly GH¢3 billion under the policy, but GAWU officials say the policy should be audited before the second phase is rolled out.

General Secretary of GAWU, Mr. Edward Kareweh said this on 24th July 2024, in reaction to the mid-year budget. Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam said close to GH¢3 billion has been expanded under the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

Responding to this on Plan B Fm’s ‘Nkosuonsem’ show hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi, a Communications team member of Movement for Change for Tema, Mr. Felix Kwasi Anan stated that, means of transporting farm produce from rural areas to urban areas are not in good shape.

“Nobody was even trained in a different method in Agriculture under the policy, there’s no state farm under the project. This huge amount of money invested in that Planting for Food and Jobs programme didn’t make any positive impact on Ghanaians, the resources has gone waste” he noted.
