The Ghana Education Service (GES) has approved Friday, October 30, 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for private school teachers across the country.
In a letter dated October 13, 2026, and addressed to Regional Directors of Education, the GES said the Director-General had granted approval for private school teachers to observe the day under the theme “Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Teachers.”
The approval follows a request by the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) and the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for the declaration of the day as a CPD Day for all private schools nationwide.
According to the GES, the training programme is intended to equip teachers with practical strategies to promote their mental health and well-being, enhance resilience, and foster a supportive school environment.
The Service has directed Regional Directors to inform Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education and ensure the necessary coordination for the smooth implementation of the programme.
It has also asked the respective directors to liaise with District Training Officers to organise and monitor the participation of private schools in their districts.
The CPD Day will be observed as a holiday for learners in private schools, according to the letter signed by Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, on behalf of the Director-General.
The initiative is expected to provide private school teachers with an opportunity to strengthen their professional capacity while placing greater emphasis on their mental health and psychosocial well-being.
