Dominic Akanti, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, has defended the party’s record on hospital infrastructure, insisting that several hospitals were initiated and completed under NPP administrations.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN show, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Akanti challenged claims about the NPP’s performance in the health sector, citing 37 hospitals that he said were started and completed under NPP governments. He mentioned Somanya, Tollen, Wupe, Bamboi and Suame among the facilities, arguing that the party had made significant contributions to healthcare infrastructure.
Mr. Akanti also questioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its record and the policies it intends to implement, challenging the party to demonstrate how its proposals would benefit Ghanaians. He maintained that the NPP had a record of delivering projects and policies, which he said should be considered in assessing the two parties.
Turning to issues surrounding the movement of people into Ghana, he criticised what he described as inconsistencies in the handling of individuals entering the country. He questioned the rationale behind the arrangements and the possible implications for national security and immigration management.
He further raised concerns about claims involving financial support for individuals arriving in Ghana, referring to an amount of GH¢5,500 and questioning the process through which the beneficiaries were registered. He also challenged the description of some individuals as head porters, arguing that the circumstances surrounding their registration and arrival required further explanation.
Mr. Akanti described the issues as evidence of what he considered weaknesses in the handling of public policy, questioning whether such decisions reflected the level of competence expected from those responsible for governing the country.
He concluded by insisting that Ghana needed clear and effective policies that could be implemented in the national interest. He maintained that the NPP’s record on hospital infrastructure and other areas should be considered when comparing the party’s performance with that of the NDC.
