Gary Neville Slams Marcos Alonso For His Role In Andriy Yarmolenko’s Winner

After a slow half an hour, the match came alive in the 34th minute when West Ham thought they had taken the lead through Tomas Soucek. However, after a long VAR check, Michail Antonio was adjudged to be in an offside position.

To rub salt into the wounds Chelsea went up the other end and won themselves a penalty, which Willian converted.

But Soucek and West Ham didn’t let their heads drop and the Czech got the goal he deserved on the stroke of half time.

Shortly after half time, the home side took the lead through Antonio as they looked to go three points clear of relegation.

But Willian’s brilliant free-kick brought things level with 20 minutes remaining. The Blues then pushed and pushed for a winner.

But they pushed a bit too much and were caught on the break in injury-time time as Antonio teed up Andriy Yarmolenko for a late, late winner.

Many fans blamed Antonio Rudiger for allowing Yarmolenko to cut inside on his favoured left foot to fire past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, after watching the replays, Sky Sports co-commentator, Gary Neville, identified the role of Marcos Alonso.

Earlier in the build-up, he was alongside Yarmolenko.

A few seconds later, he was 30 yards behind the Ukrainian as the West Ham winger won the match for his side.

In the commentary, Neville said: “You see Yarmolenko’s back there with Alonso. Look at him. Look at him. Look at him. Look at him. What are you doing, Marcos Alonso? What are you doing? Look at his running back speed. He’s cost Chelsea the game.”

Frank Lampard might be saying something similar in the dressing room after the match…
