Michael Osei, a former Asante Kotoko player and respected Ghanaian coach, has passed away at the age of 53.

Reports indicate that he died in London on Friday, November 15, 2024, following an illness.

Osei, known for his immense talent as a midfielder, rose to prominence with Okwawu United before joining Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.

His exploits on the pitch earned him a move to Europe, where he featured for German Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05.

After retiring as a player, Osei transitioned into coaching and left a lasting mark in Ghanaian football.

He managed several local clubs, including New Edubiase United, Liberty Professionals, Bibiani Goldstars, and his former club Asante Kotoko.

Osei also served as an assistant coach for Ghana’s U23 team, the Black Meteors, for five years before the technical team was dissolved in 2023.

Osei had been living outside Ghana since last year. His contributions to Ghanaian football as both a player and coach will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
