A firefighter has sustained injuries while battling a commercial fire that engulfed a takeaway and rubber warehouse/factory in the Tema Industrial Area in the early hours of Tuesday.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at about 12:40 a.m., prompted a major emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). Four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones fire stations were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
During the operation, portions of a wall collapsed, injuring one firefighter. He was immediately rushed to the Tema General Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. Other firefighters also reportedly sustained minor injuries while fighting the fire.
Firefighters have since extinguished the blaze and remain at the scene carrying out salvage and overhaul operations to prevent any possible rekindling.
