About five cars and mechanic shops have been burnt at Asokwa in Kumasi.

According to an witnesses, the fire started about 9pm on Wednesday, 31st May, 2023.

Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly visited the scene but little to nothing was salvaged from the inferno.

73-year-olf Afua Ahohwe, an affected shop owner narrated her ordeal saying “I only heard of the incident this morning because the fitters didn’t want to tell me what happened as of when the incident occured because of my age.

“Sometimes I light mosquito coils in the shop but yesterday I didn’t light any coil so I can’t tell what caused the fire. I sell oil, fluids, spanners and other car parts and everything will amount to about one million Ghana cedis but I couldn’t salvage anything from my shop”.

Benjamin Baah, a victim of the incident decried saying “I’m working on two cars belonging to my clients and they have all been burnt. I couldn’t pick even a pin from my own shop. The owners of the cars and others whose works are with me came to the scene but they have not said anything yet. I’m traumatized and I want government to come to my aid”.However, the cause of the fire is not readily known but officers of the GNFS have commenced investigations.
