The Minister of Education has directed the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, pending investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.

In a press release dated October 13, 2026, the Ministry of Education said it had taken notice of an investigation by JoyNews and Manasseh Azure Awuni into the allegations against the headmaster.

The Minister has instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend Mr. Abdulai while investigations into the matter continue.

The Minister has also requested the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters to commence investigations into the allegations.

The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that misconduct of this nature is not tolerated in any educational institution across the country.

The statement emphasised that parents and guardians entrust their children to teachers, whose responsibility is to protect and safeguard them rather than abuse that trust.

The Ministry said the actions being taken are intended to ensure that the allegations are thoroughly investigated.
