outbreak has destroyed eight shops, including a popular drinking spot, at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, with properties worth several thousands of Ghana cedis lost.
The fire, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, took firefighters over two hours to bring under control.
The affected shops included a printing press, restaurant, pub, and dressmaking shop, with printing equipment, sound systems, sewing machines, clothes, refrigerators, drinks, and other goods consumed by the fire.
Although the cause of the fire is yet to be established, a gas cylinder and a fire extinguisher were found at the scene.
DOIII Paul Tawiah, Assin Fosu Municipal Fire Officer, attributed the challenges faced by firefighters to the lack of a fire hydrant in the area.
He appealed to the Ghana Water Company and the Assin Fosu Municipal Assembly to provide fire hydrants at vantage points in Assin Fosu as a proactive measure.
