Fire at Akosombo substation disrupts power supply

Parts Of Accra plunged Into Darkness

A fire outbreak at the Akosombo Substation has caused disruptions to power supply in parts of the country, the Ghana Grid Company Limited has confirmed.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, the incident occurred at approximately 2:01 p.m., affecting operations and power generation at the facility.

GRIDCo said emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene and are working continuously to assess the situation and implement corrective measures. Technical teams are also undertaking a full evaluation to determine the extent of the damage and expedite efforts to restore normal operations.

The company assured the public that steps are being taken to stabilise the power system and minimise the impact of the outage.

“We wish to assure the public that our technical teams are actively working to manage the situation,” the statement noted, adding that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

GRIDCo has urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the situation is under control.
