Energy Minister orders GRIDCo CEO to step aside, announces ECG shake-up after Akosombo fire

We only have five hours of fuel stock – John Jinapor
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company to step aside pending investigations into a fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control centre.

The incident, which has raised concerns over the stability and management of critical power infrastructure, is currently under investigation to determine its cause and impact on electricity transmission.

In a related development, there has been a significant shake-up in the leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region. While details of the changes remain limited, the move is seen as part of broader efforts to address operational challenges within the power distribution sector.

The Minister is expected to provide further clarity on these developments at a scheduled press briefing at 2:00 PM tomorrow. The briefing will focus on recent issues affecting electricity distribution and outline measures being taken to ensure stability and efficiency in the sector.

These developments come amid growing public interest in the management of Ghana’s power supply system and efforts to prevent disruptions.
