Rev. Dr Christiana Otoo Lartey, Senior Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, has urged individuals to reevaluate their priorities on Valentine’s Day.
In an interview with hostess Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s popular social and lifestyle programme, Nyansapɔ Fie, Rev. Dr Otoo Lartey cautioned against the commercialisation of love. “Don’t be swayed by teddy bears as gifts,” she said.
She recounted a situation where a partner received a teddy bear as a Valentine’s Day gift, only to later discover the same item in a friend’s room, complete with the same inscription and signature.
“The teddy bear may look cute, but the truth can be ugly,” Rev. Dr Otoo Lartey warned, highlighting the importance of genuine relationships.
She also advised against having high expectations for Valentine’s Day gifts. “Don’t get your hopes up only to end up heartbroken when you don’t receive a gift,” she said.
Instead, Rev. Dr Otoo Lartey encouraged couples to focus on simple yet meaningful gestures. “A simple phone call or a peck is enough if you don’t have anything special planned,” she added.
She further urged individuals to use the occasion to heal from heartbreak and mend relationships at home.
Her insightful remarks serve as a reminder to cultivate meaningful and lasting relationships beyond material gifts and expectations.
