Department of Social Welfare Rescues Burnt Girl Selling Lime Under Hot Sun

The department of social welfare in New Juaben South Assembly has rescued a 13-year-old girl hawking lime on the streets of Koforidua despite sustaining burns on her feet.

The victim was spotted again this morning at the same Koforidua /Accra Lorry terminal wearing the same dress hawking.

The victim was taken to the Department of Social Welfare -New Juaben South by two Journalists Obed Kojo Ansah and Andy Cole.

The Director of the Social Welfare department Emmanuel Larbi was deeply worried and “detained” the victim.

The director together with a female staff joined the Journalists to search for the woman behind the heartless act.

A few minutes later the suspect turned herself in at the office.

The suspect woman, about 65-year-old grandmother stays with the victim at Adeiso in Upper West Akyem District. However, comes to Koforidua the victim to sell the lime.

The girl was injured after a soup on fire accidentally poured on her feet.

The grandmother claims she sent the victim to the hospital hence believes the scalds are healed.

She said the victim herself decided to drop out of school because of poor performance.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare has transported the victim and the Suspect to the Upper West Akyem office of the department to further investigate and take care of the child.
