An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, after he failed to appear before the court to answer criminal charges.
Asiedu, a marketer by profession, is facing charges of threat of death and publication of false news over comments allegedly directed at staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
When the case was called, the accused was absent despite having been duly notified to appear.
Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, who led the prosecution, told the court that Asiedu’s failure to attend proceedings showed disregard for the authority of the court. The court subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest and adjourned the case to August 25, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the complainants are officers of EOCO.
The prosecution said Asiedu was invited for questioning on July 14, 2026, following the circulation of a social media video in which he allegedly threatened the lives of EOCO personnel.
It alleged that in a video recorded on May 29, 2026, Asiedu stated: “We know the officers’ houses, we know where they stay and we will kill you.”
The prosecution further alleged that on July 13, 2026, the accused appeared in another video claiming that there was “an order from above, the Presidency, that no one should bring food to Dennis Miracles Aboagye,” who was at the time in EOCO custody assisting with investigations.
According to the prosecution, the claim was false and was intended to mislead the public, incite a breach of the peace, and undermine EOCO officers in the lawful execution of their duties.
The prosecution also told the court that after the video was published, the driver of EOCO’s Executive Director was allegedly chased by about 20 unidentified men on motorbikes, who were suspected of intending to attack him.
It said the alleged actions created fear among EOCO personnel while carrying out their official duties.
The prosecution further stated that Asiedu was arrested and allegedly admitted to the offences during police investigations in his caution statement.
