John Ato Breboh, Deputy Chief Investigator at the Tema Sub-Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has issued a stern warning to public officials to remain focused on their responsibilities and resist corruption, which can erode public trust, damage reputation, undermine development, and compromise human rights.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s ‘Nyansapɔ Fie,’ Uncle Ato emphasized the importance of accountability and measured speech, particularly for those serving in the current administration. He cautioned that failure to remain concentrated can lead to succumbing to corruption through inducements and bribes.
Uncle Ato also stressed the need for public officials to be mindful of their promises and how they deliver on them, as this can impact their credibility and influence their speech.
Furthermore, Uncle Ato proposed the reintroduction of an academic major in the education sector, which would provide learners with in-depth knowledge in their chosen fields, whether Arts, STEM, or TVET. He also suggested linking research projects to practical applications, such as producing maize throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions, to feed the citizenry.
In conclusion, John Ato Breboh’s warning to public officials to remain concentrated on their responsibilities and resist corruption is a timely reminder of the importance of accountability and integrity in governance. By staying focused and committed to serving the public interest, officials can avoid the pitfalls of corruption and work towards a more transparent and just society.
