Commercial Drivers Call Off Strike After Authorities’ Assurance

Commercial Drivers Call Off Strike After Authorities’ Assurance
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has suspended its planned industrial action following assurances from authorities that they will address long-standing concerns over unauthorised roadside trading and road congestion.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm programme with host Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, GPRTU Deputy Public Relations Officer Samuel Amoah said the issues had impacted drivers’ earnings and resulted in unnecessary fines.

The union referenced Regulation 117 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), and cautioned that industrial action would resume if the authorities failed to deliver on their promises.

Amoah expressed the union’s expectation that authorities, including the AMA Mayor, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Local Government, would take sustained action to resolve the issues.
