Assin Tetre-Nkwanta in the Assin North District of the Central Region was thrown into a state of mourning when news of the death of their Chief, Nana Kweku Opare II, broke out.

The 70-year-old Chief lost his life in an accident at Assin Praso on the Cape Coast-Kumasi Highway, on Sunday, February 15, around 20:00 hours.

Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency that the deceased who resided at Assin Praso had just returned from a funeral in his hometown and was heading home with some of his sub chiefs when the unfortunate incident happened.

While attempting to cross the road to the other side, a speeding motorbike with no headlight knocked him down, killing him instantly.

The impact was severe that it left the Chief with multiple fractures on his arms and legs.

Later, the Police were called to the scene and with the assistance of bystanders, the injured Chief was rushed to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The motorbike rider identified as Ebenezer Tettey, 24-year-old, was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at the same Hospital.
