Changes in the minority caucus can affect NDC If not handled properly- Political analyst

NDC make changes to its leadership in Parliament; Ato Forson replaces Haruna as Minority leader

Dr. Osei Bonsu a political analyst has asserted that recent changes made by the National Democratic Congress NDC’s minority caucus in parliament can affect the party’s internal election scheduled for May this year and the general elections.

“If what i have been listening to from some of the minority MPs’ is true that there was no consultation from the minority caucus in parliament, then the leadership of NDC must take a critical look at it even though parliamentarians represent the party and also serves their party interest, all members of parliament must be well informed on some decision”, he stressed.

The Political Analyst made this known  on Plan B Fm’s morning show NKOSUONSEM when speaking to Ohene Addo on Wednesday January 25,2023.

Ato Forson replaces Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader

The Ranking Member of the Finance Committee and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency in the Central Region, Casiel Ato Forson, has replaced Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu as the Minority Leader.

Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle has also come in to replace Ketu North MP James Klutse Avedzi as the Deputy Minority Leader while Kwame Agbodza has also replaced Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak as the Minority Whip.

Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyo-Ghansah have, however, maintained their positions as First and Second deputy Whips respectively.

Meanwhile, some MPs of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC are said to be aggrieved over the “unlawful” removal of Leader Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak as frontbenchers of the Minority in Parliament.

Reports inside the party suggest several MPs are openly revolting against the change in leadership of the opposition in Parliament without appropriate consultations with the MPs for a Caucus Decision.

The Minority Caucus is said to be unaware of any such changes in leadership and members do not recognize anybody appointed from outside the Caucus.

The leadership changes are said to be a Palace Coup orchestrated by John Mahama and party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to cut down the rising influence of the front bench led by Haruna Iddrisu who posed a threat to Mahama.

Whereas MPs from the Central Region are said to support the changes, almost all the MPs from the 5 Northern Regions, Greater Accra and Bono, And Ahafo Regions are said to be against them.

In other words, some youth of the National Democratic Congress NDC called Dagbon Concern Youth have also issued a press statement expressing their bummer over the new changes.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
ALL MEDIA HOUSES.
CONCERNED DAGBON YOUTH.
RE- NOTICE OF CHANGES IN THE LEADERSHIP OF THE NDC PARTY IN PARLIAMENT.

The above-mentioned youth group’s leadership and members have observed with regret and dismay a statement sanctioned by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, NDC. We take note of this shuffle and the ill motives that prompted this action.

We believe that the removal of the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, rumored as a catalyst to cripple the honorable man, was engineered by tribal machination, which will harm not only him but the NDC in its entirety.

As a political party that promotes itself as a welcoming political party for all tribes and especially minority groups in Ghana, the NDC should be the last to take such an action motivated by tribalism and favoritism.

We’ve learned that the decision to remove him was orchestrated by a few delusional top members who have joined a cabal, believing they have captured
