Carlos Queiroz laments costly errors after Ghana’s defeat to Croatia

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has blamed costly defensive mistakes for Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia, insisting his side must eliminate such errors if they are to compete at the highest level.

Reflecting on the loss, Queiroz said Ghana gifted Croatia opportunities through avoidable mistakes, particularly misplaced back passes that led to a loss of possession in dangerous areas.

“They capitalized on our mistakes, with a couple of back passes where we lost control of the ball,” the Ghana coach said.

Queiroz also expressed disappointment with the nature of the goals his team conceded, describing them as unacceptable for a side competing at the FIFA World Cup.

“The goals we conceded were too easy and not at the level of a world championship. We have to do better, we cannot concede a goal from 40 meters,” he added.

Despite the setback, Ghana had already secured qualification to the Round of 32 before the match. The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the knockout stage, where Queiroz will be hoping his side can cut out the defensive lapses that proved costly against Croatia.
