A 64-year-old man has been killed after being knocked down by two different cars at Oteng Nkwanta on the Santase to Ahenema Kokoben road in Kumasi.

The deceased, identified as Rev. John Kyereme, was first knocked down by a speeding Kia Pregio commercial bus whilst he was crossing the busy highway on December 12, 2024.

Rev. Kyereme suffered severe body injuries as he laid in the middle of the road. But before help could be extended to him, another vehicle also ran over him at top speed.

The victim was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for treatment, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead by medical personnel.

“Suspect driver Isaac Nti, aged 32, was driving a Kia Pregio commercial bus with registration number GN 3049-11, loaded with passengers from Santasi Roundabout towards Ahenema Kokoben direction.

“On reaching a section of the road at Oteng Nkwanta, the vehicle knocked down a male adult pedestrian by name Rev. John Kyereme, aged 64, who was crossing the road.

“Victim sustained serious injuries and was again ran over by a driver in charge of vehicle No. GS 1224-20, who failed to stop,” a Suame Divisional police report disclosed.

The victim, the report said, was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, adding that the body has been deposited at the same hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

According to the police, the suspect driver has since been detained and accident vehicle also impounded at the station for investigation.
