The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has voted to reject the President’s nominee for Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ernest Arthur.
President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee was rejected by 31 of the 65 assembly members who voted in the referendum.
According to the rules, a nominee must receive two-thirds of the total votes cast by assembly members.
Mr. Arthur received 34 votes, representing 52 percent of the total number of votes cast.
The Assembly is anticipated to meet for reconfirmation within 10 days.
Mr. Arthur is one of 125 MMDCEs nationwide who were retained after a lengthy nomination process.
He is also the second MCE nominee to be rejected after Yendi MCE nominee, Alhaji Ahmed Yussuf Abubakar.
Before receiving appointment letters, all nominated MMDCEs must be voted on the assembly members in their respective MMDAs.
