12 Assembly Members of the Awutu Senya West District Assembly say they are demanding answers from the Presiding Member Richard Ghartey, Coordinating Director, Eunice Naalier and the District Electoral Commissioner Patience Baidoo over the validity of the confirmation of the District Chief Executive nominee, Moses Arhinful Acquah.
The nominee is purported to have been confirmed nicodemusley on Sunday dawn contrary to a date that was announced earlier after two failed attempts to have him confirmed.
Moses Arhinful Acquah is one of the persons who were nominated by President Akufo Addo after his reshuffle on 2nd of February.
His nomination was greeted with a mixed reaction from some residents of the Awutu Senya District.
During the first attempt to have his appointment confirmed on February 12 2024, Moses Arhinful Acquah failed to gain the required threshold of votes as he gained 19 Yes votes as against 15 No votes.
A second attempt on 29th of February also failed as he could only maximize his votes to 23 Yes and 12 No votes and still falling short of the required number of votes to qualify him as DCE.
The outcome of that elections required for him to be renominated by the President.
Following his renomination letters signed by the Presiding Member of the Assembly and distributing to members inviting them to a meeting on Tuesday March 12, 2024 for the confirmation of the nominee.
However, there has been a surprising turn of events as the nominee has been purportedly confirmed at a meeting that was nichodemously held in the “wee”hours of Sunday, March 10, 2024.
The meeting per information gathered by Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah was held without the presence of some 12 members of the Assembly and his swearing in done without the presence of the district judge.
They are, however, resolved to challenging the validity of his confirmation and are threatening to institute a legal actions against the process.
