Bus On Fire: 6 Passengers Traveling From Upper West Burnt To Death At Akomadan

Bus On Fire: 6 Passengers Traveling From Upper West Burnt To Death At Akomadan
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Information reaching planbfmonline indicates that contrary to earlier reports that over 35 passengers were burnt to death after a passenger bus they were traveling caught fire at the Police Barrier in Akomadan on the Offinso-Nkenkaasu road in the Ashanti Region, the actual number of persons who died in the fire is six.

A source in the area told this news portal that the bus is an OA Bus which was heading to Kumasi from Lawra in the Upper West Region when the unfortunate incident happened.

Speaking about the incident, the source noted that the bus was speeding and on reaching the barrier, the driver of the bus applied brakes and that was when the bus caught fire killing the 6 passengers at the scene.

According to the source, some of the passengers attempted to escape from the burning bus but failed because they could not break window glasses of the bus. “A lot of them were screaming and calling for help as the bus continued to burn in flames,” the source said.

Asked how many passengers he though were on the bus at the time of the incident, the source answered that he did not count and therefore could not say the exact number but was quick to state that the bus loaded to its capacity when it arrived at the barrier.

“I think the fire started from the front around where the engine is. I say so because I saw flames emanating from that part of the bus and it subsequently caught other parts of the bus. It is sad that this number of people died as a result of the fire,” the source concluded.
