Work on the dualisation of the Winneba to Mankessim road has reached 25 percent, with construction progressing steadily since it began in December 2025.
The 24 kilometre stretch forms part of the wider Winneba-Cape Coast road upgrade, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving travel along Ghana’s central coastal corridor. Officials say the work is on schedule for completion in November 2027.
So far, the contractor has completed site clearing as well as the construction of major culverts and drainage systems. Work is also ongoing on the subbase and base layers of the road.

Construction has begun on two key interchanges at Apam Junction and Otaw, which are expected to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in those areas.
The project includes road formation, asphalt surfacing, drainage systems, pedestrian underground crossings, street lighting, bus stops and other road safety features.
When completed, the upgraded highway is expected to reduce travel time for motorists and improve connections between Accra, Cape Coast and Takoradi.
Authorities say the project will also support economic activity by making the movement of people and goods along the coastal route faster and more efficient.
