Be Fair To Artisanal Fishers – GCGOA To Government

Ghana canoe and Gear owners Association have kicked against any attempt to introduce additional fishing holiday for artisanal fishers.
The group says the holiday in an economic decision to promote industrial fishing with no biological bases to improve fish stocks.

Mr Kenneth Arthur Public Relations Officer for canoe And Gear Owners Association in an interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on Plan B FM’s Ebanoosen revealed that they are not happy about the additional fishing holiday the reason being that they already have one which does not even affect industrial fishers and semi industrial fishers.

He disclosed that the the industrial fishers have no off day they are always out on the sea days that they are expected to stay of their duty for they fishes to replenish, they won’t be able to achieve those fishes Because the industrial fishers goes out on the sea on their holiday to fish all before they resume .

He concluded that they will only welcome the additional day if it’s going to affect both Artisanal and industrial fishers.
