Chief Inspector Morgan with the Tema Community 2 District Police Command has advised the general public, especially commercial and private drivers to be bold and take maintenance seriously as we prepare for the festive season in order to prevent accidents.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Nana Yaw Abrompah, Chief Inspector Morgan said, vehicles should be inspected before it hit the road, and  it must be properly maintained to ensure they are safe.

He said, any defect that might affect the driver’s and passengers’ safety must be corrected before using the vehicle.

“Driver must check the vehicle’s body condition for any damage. Bumpers, fenders, and trim must be in good condition and must not be loose or significantly damaged, check all doors and their locking mechanisms for easy operation. Make sure that the doors are functional and not obstructed or otherwise, and ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded so you have good visual clearance in all directions”

He stressed that drivers should make sure the tires are properly inflated. Recognize that every vehicle type has different requirements for tire pressure. The manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure is listed in the owner’s manual and on the driver’s door or door pillar. Make sure the tire can handle the pressure required. Check the tire pressure using a high-quality tire pressure gauge.

“As a driver and your vehicle is faulty, don’t succumb to the vehicle owner’s mantra ‘manage it small small’ because when an accident occurs you the driver and the passengers live at stake” he said.
