Bagbin blasts Black Stars as defeat deepens crisis ahead of World Cup

Speaker Bagbin lifts suspension of 4 MPs

Ghana’s World Cup preparations have been thrown into fresh uncertainty after Alban Bagbin publicly questioned the direction of the national team, insisting their recent defeat had little to do with coaching.

Reacting to the 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart, the Speaker suggested deeper structural issues are behind the Black Stars’ struggles, casting doubt on the foundations of the team rather than just the technical bench.

His remarks come in the wake of the Ghana Football Association’s decision to part ways with Otto Addo—a move that now looks more like a temporary fix than a long-term solution.

Speaking at the launch of the Democracy Cup, Bagbin’s tone reflected a growing national concern: Ghana’s problems may run far beyond tactics and team selection, pointing instead to a system in need of urgent reform.

With just 72 days to the 2026 World Cup, the Black Stars are not only searching for a new head coach but also grappling with identity, cohesion, and belief—raising serious questions about their readiness for football’s biggest stage.
