Assin Fosu: NDC youth organiser aspirant injured in branch elections violence

A Deputy NDC Constituency Youth Organiser Aspirant is battling for his life after sustaining a brutal assault during the party’s branch executives elections in Assin Fosu.

The victim, Yaw Owusu, came under attack during a scuffle between members of the party over a disparity in counted votes versus the actual number of turnout in the Bamboo Factory Polling Station Women Organizer elections.

According to Yaw Owusu, election officials initially announced that 17 delegates were present to vote, but 25 ballots were counted after voting, prompting him and some supporters to question what they believed was over-voting.

He alleged that, shortly after raising concerns, a group of men believed to be affiliated with opposing camps attacked him with sticks and sharp objects, leaving him with multiple injuries.

Yaw Owusu, sustained serious injuries and was initially rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu before being referred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for specialised treatment.

Medical reports indicate that he suffered a fractured neck, an eye injury, head injuries and suspected spinal injuries.

The injured aspirant has appealed to the National Executives of the NDC, particularly the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to intervene and ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and brought to justice.

The assault has been reported to the Central North Regional Police Command, which has launched investigations into the incident.
