Asamankese Circuit Court Jail Okada Rider 18 Years For Stealing

The Asamankese Circuit Court has sentenced a 22 year old motorbike to 18 years imprisonment in hard for assault and stealing an unregistered motorcycle valued at Gh¢3,200.00 at Takurase in the Eastern region.

The accused, David Akwandoh pleaded guilty when he was charged for stealing the motorbike. He also pleaded guilty to the charge of assault which was brought against him by prosecution when he appeared before the judge of the circuit court, His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Susan Ayaric, told the court that the complainant is Rigobert Agyei, an 18-year-old student in Suabe. Akwandoh according to prosecution reside in Wenchi, in the Denkyembour District.

She explained that the complainant was riding his motorbike on February 28, 2021 around 1:30 pm from Wenchi towards Suabe when he met the accused on the road.

Continuing, prosecution added that the accused person indicated to the compliant that he was heading in the same direction and then asked to join him; something the complainant readily agreed and allowed the accused person on board.

As they journeyed on the accused person is said to have pulled something from his pocket which later turned out to be pepper and poured it into the eye of the complainant who subsequently lost control of his motorcycle.

According to the prosecution statement, the accused managed to beat the complainant and took the motorcycle away. The accused person was later sent to Saint Dominic Hospital in Akwatia for treatment with the help of some good Samaritans who saw him after the attack on him.

On March 3, 2021, the accused was spotted on the motorcycle and was chased and arrested and subsequently handed over to the police for prosecution.
