The Ahafo Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with the Tano North Municipal Assembly and the Blue Water Guards, has held a community dialogue and environmental safety engagement at Adagyemem in the Tano North Municipality to promote environmental protection and sustainable peace.
The programme brought together traditional authorities, security agencies, government institutions, civil society organisations, members of the media and residents to discuss the relationship between environmental conservation and peaceful community development.
Participants were educated on the security and environmental consequences of illegal mining (galamsey), the need to protect Ghana’s water bodies, and the collective responsibility of citizens, communities and institutions in preserving natural resources for future generations.
Addressing the gathering, the Ahafo Regional Executive Secretary of the Regional Peace Council, Mr. Emmanuel Danyomah, stressed that safeguarding water bodies goes beyond environmental conservation and is a critical component of peacebuilding.
He called for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders to combat illegal mining, protect the environment and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources.
The dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ahafo Regional Peace Council and its partners to raise public awareness on the dangers of galamsey while fostering community participation in protecting the environment and promoting lasting peace.
