Career diplomat Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum has described the controversial ‘Agyapadie’ book in circulation as authentic, contradicting claims by Okyenhene, Gabby Otchere Darko, and President Akufo-Addo that it is a fabrication.
Addressing a news conference in Kumasi, the former Ashanti Regional Minister stated that Ghanaians should take an interest in the book to track how its content has been implemented in the country. He expressed disappointment that the document’s implementers are being referred to as the “Akyem Mafia” when, in fact, they should be called the “Kyebi Mafia”.
“It is appropriate for me to draw the attention of the good people of this country to this document and to state categorically that this document is authentic and it represents a very diabolical scheme by a small group of individuals from Kyebi,” he said.
“My understanding when people talk about the ‘Akyem Mafia,’ I think that expression is wrong. It is not an Akyem Mafia. To be more accurate, I will argue that it is ‘Kyebi Mafia.’ After all, there are three paramountcies in Akyem, and not all the people are involved in the scheme,” he said.
Ambassador Ohene Agyekum emphasized that unlike previous allegations made against President Akufo-Addo, which lacked factual basis, the Agyapadie book has substantial evidence to support its authenticity.
“One may ask why I’m doing this. I’m doing this because I believe that your destiny, the younger generation, children, and grandchildren are very much at stake. Akufo-Addo said this book is being published to tarnish the name of his party, political career, and his family, an attempt he claimed by the opposition as they did to former President John Agyekum Kuffour over old stolen allegations.”
“In the case of the allegations the opposition leveled against former President Kuffour, and President Atta Mills, among others, they admittedly did not have evidence. In the case of the Agyapadie Booklet, there is substantial evidence of the physical projects implemented. No one is making an attempt to destroy Akufo-Addo’s image because of elections, but the evidence of the devilish agenda implementation is obviously visible to Ghanaians,” he lamented.
He revealed that the book was leaked by a member within the Akyem Abuakwa state through a lady based in London and that he received a copy before the 2020 general elections.
“On 29th November 2020, a week before the elections, a lady called Amery Afoakwa Boadu claimed that she is a direct niece of Akufo-Addo and from the Kyebi royalty. She was seeking to have the addresses of our leaders John Dramani Mahama and Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. She was speaking from London. That is the first time that I got to know about this Agyapadie booklet,” he disclosed.
“Prior to the publication of this document from 2007 and 2008, it was not in booklet form but nevertheless, essentially stated the same story as in the public Agyapadie book, and this was in 2008. So this Agyapadie Book is not just a figment of somebody’s imagination,” he reiterated.
