Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Kobina Wayome has revealed that $15 million dollars was spent on food for athletes at the 2023 Africa Games.

According to the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, documents presented to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports revealed that the $15 million which was spent on food consumed by the athletes was just for 18 days.

Kobina Wayome after making this revelation said they have requested for a breakdown of how $15 million was spent on just the food consumed by the athletes in 18 days and will get to the bottom of the issue.

“You are spending $245 million and out of that, we got to know that a whopping amount of $15 million was used to feed athletes for 18 days. You realize that some of these things need to be investigated.”

“We wanted to know how many athletes actually made it. How many got registered? In fact, we need to get a report from the games management system because the system must be able to tell us. How many actually came and participated in the Games. All these details we would want to know,” he said.

The 53 countries who competed in the 13th edition of the Africa Games provided 2,644 athletes who participated in 335 events.
