The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Black Stars Coach Search Committee, has extended the deadline for applications for the vacant Black Stars head coach position to October 15, 2026.
The extension is intended to attract a wider pool of qualified candidates as the committee works towards identifying a suitable successor to lead Ghana’s senior national team.
In a statement, the GFA said the committee had recommended an enhanced and structured recruitment process following its initial engagements and preliminary review.
The association explained that the appointment should go beyond filling a vacant position, describing it as an opportunity to establish a stronger football identity, reinforce high-performance standards and build a sustainable foundation for future success.
The committee is expected to continue evaluating, interviewing and shortlisting candidates throughout October and November, with a final recommendation to be submitted after the process.
According to the GFA, the recruitment exercise will involve thorough background checks, engagement with key football stakeholders and technical experts, and assessments of candidates based on their technical competence, leadership qualities, cultural fit and high-performance standards.
The objective, it said, is to identify not only a coach with impressive qualifications but also one whose vision and capabilities align with the long-term direction of Ghana football.
Interim Technical Team for November Fixtures
Meanwhile, an interim technical team will be appointed to manage the Black Stars during the November international window while the search for a permanent head coach continues.
The temporary team will oversee preparations for the November matches, maintain continuity in the national team programme, support player monitoring and engagement, and facilitate a smooth transition when the substantive head coach is appointed.
The arrangement is expected to allow the committee to undertake a comprehensive recruitment exercise without compromising the team’s immediate competitive responsibilities.
The GFA reiterated its commitment to a transparent, professional and merit-based process, stressing that the broader objective is to strengthen the structures, culture and environment needed to sustain success at both continental and global levels.
The association has also called on Black Stars supporters, former players, football stakeholders and the media to exercise patience and offer constructive support throughout the process.
The coaching search comes at a crucial period for Ghana football, with expectations mounting for a fresh direction for the Black Stars following recent disappointing performances.
The GFA says the exercise presents an opportunity not only to appoint a new head coach but also to shape a stronger and more sustainable future for Ghana football.
