Adwoa Safo: NPP should also summon Akufo-Addo to the disciplinary committee to answer—Edward Ennin

“Vote For Me If You Are Tired Of High Tax Rate”-Akufo Addo’s Old Campaign Tweet Pops Up

Edward Michael Ennin, a former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, has called for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be summoned before the disciplinary committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Ennin, the former president played a key role in the removal of influential party members, including former national chairman Paul Afoko and former general secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Speaking on Asempa FM on March 22, 2025, he argued that instead of focusing on silencing disgruntled party members, the NPP should investigate and potentially sanction Akufo-Addo for his involvement in these removals.

He questioned why the party had not yet addressed what he described as an improper process in dismissing these figures, insisting that the former president should be held accountable for the way the party’s constitution was used to justify their removal.

“Is this not the same party where some of the leaders like Akufo-Addo orchestrated the sacking of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong? The manner in which they sacked these people wasn’t right but why haven’t they addressed that issue? They should also summon Akufo-Addo to the disciplinary committee to answer for how they used the constitution to sack these people. The way they sacked them was it right?” he lamented.

Ennin also expressed concern over the loss of key founding and prominent members of the party.

He urged the leadership to move beyond personal interests and ensure that members are treated fairly, rather than being sidelined to serve the ambitions of a single individual.

He warned that such internal conflicts could widen divisions within the party and lead to further alienation of its members.

The former lawmaker highlighted the departure of figures like Wereko-Brobbey and Kwame Mpianim, attributing their exit to Akufo-Addo’s leadership style.

He questioned whether the party was meant to serve the collective interest or just one individual.

Ennin made these remarks while discussing the NPP’s decision to refer former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo to the disciplinary committee over alleged actions deemed harmful to the party.

Paul Afoko, who became the party’s national chairman in April 2014, was suspended in October 2015 alongside Kwabena Agyepong and Second Vice Chairperson Sammy Crabbe.

The NPP justified their suspension by citing behaviors it considered damaging to its political prospects.
