Aunty May Bright Koffie, an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner, has highlighted the psychological effects of poor communication in relationships and everyday interactions.
Speaking on Nyansapo fie show on Plan B 104.5 FM, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Aunty May explained that when individuals constantly suppress their thoughts and fail to communicate or share their ideas about important matters, it can negatively affect their mental and emotional well-being. According to her, the inability to express oneself may gradually weaken a person’s confidence and sense of participation in discussions.
She further noted that situations where individuals are repeatedly ignored or made to feel that their opinions do not matter can amount to a form of gaslighting. In such cases, people may begin to believe that their views are insignificant.
Aunty May Bright Koffie cautioned that when this pattern continues for a long time, it can eventually become a person’s lifestyle, making it difficult for them to speak up or actively engage in conversations and decision-making processes.
She therefore encouraged individuals and families to promote open communication and create environments where everyone feels heard and respected.
