Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has raised concerns over a GHS60 million transfer to the Office of the President just days before President Akufo-Addo’s tenure ends. The funds were reportedly received on December 23, 2024, at 4:38 pm for “Special Operations.”
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Mr. Ablakwa questioned the rationale behind this expenditure, particularly given the government’s failure to settle arrears owed to critical institutions such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).
“The profligate President Akufo-Addo must explain to Ghanaians why his ‘Special Operations’ at the twilight of his tenure should be prioritized over crippling arrears at WAEC, CHASS, CETAG, Free SHS Secretariat, IPPs, NaBCo, and others,” Ablakwa stated.
He accused the outgoing government of focusing on wasteful expenditures while neglecting pressing national obligations. Ablakwa further called for legislation to regulate excessive spending, dubious contracts, and mass recruitments during transitional periods to safeguard national resources.
The allegations have sparked widespread concern, with many calling for transparency and an official explanation from the government.
