Hon. Charlotte Eyiram Dzirakor has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) and government ministers to prioritise the welfare of their constituents and demonstrate greater accountability in the execution of their public duties.
Speaking on Plan B 104.5 FM’s Nkosuosɛm programme, hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi, she emphasised that political office is a responsibility to serve the people and should not be used as an avenue for personal gain.
Hon. Dzirakor expressed concern about the challenges ordinary Ghanaians face in accessing essential services, particularly healthcare. She questioned why citizens should continue to struggle with inadequate healthcare facilities and the high cost of medical services while their elected representatives enjoy the privileges associated with public office.
She urged MPs and ministers to move beyond political promises and focus on practical interventions that will improve the living conditions of their constituents.
She further called for accountability across the political divide, stressing that public officials must be held responsible for their actions regardless of their political affiliation.
According to her, political parties must not defend wrongdoing simply because those involved belong to their political camp.
On public financial management, Hon. Dzirakor urged ministers and other government appointees to demonstrate transparency in the use of public funds and be prepared to account for their decisions.
She added that genuine accountability also requires public officials to acknowledge their mistakes and take corrective action when necessary.
Hon. Dzirakor concluded by urging political leaders to put Ghana’s national interest above partisan considerations, insisting that the welfare of citizens must remain the ultimate measure of leadership.
