Two roadside shops at Nsawam have been severely damaged after two separate vehicles crashed into them within a short period, leaving traders shaken and counting their losses.
The first crash occurred in the morning when a vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a roadside shop, destroying its frontage and scattering goods across the street.
The driver and occupants reportedly sustained minor injuries as traders and passers-by rushed to the scene to assess the damage.
Before residents could recover from the incident, another vehicle crashed into a second shop a short distance away, causing further destruction and forcing traders to flee for their safety.
Several people reportedly sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby health facility for treatment. However, no fatalities have been reported.
The two incidents have heightened concerns among traders and residents over road safety along the busy Nsawam highway, with some blaming speeding and reckless driving for the recurring accidents.
Affected traders are appealing to the police and the local assembly to introduce preventive measures, including speed ramps and warning signs, to protect businesses and pedestrians.
Police officers visited the scenes to manage traffic and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
The affected shop owners are now counting their losses and appealing for support to rebuild their businesses.
The incidents have once again brought into focus the dangers faced by traders operating close to major highways and the need for urgent road safety interventions.
