A Syrian national has been arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after allegedly attempting to smuggle approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage from Ghana.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirmed the arrest in a press release dated November 1, 2026, stating that the suspect was apprehended on Saturday, October 31, following his arrival from Accra, Ghana.

According to NACOC, efforts are underway to arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices in Ghana as part of an ongoing operation.

The Commission said the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery exercise involving close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.

The joint operation was aimed at identifying and apprehending targets at both ends of the drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider transnational criminal network behind the shipment.

NACOC described the operation as a demonstration of Ghana and Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening cross-border intelligence-sharing and disrupting international drug trafficking networks.

The Commission added that investigations and operational efforts were continuing to apprehend other individuals connected to the shipment.
