The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in a joint operation with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has destroyed several cannabis farms at Siiru, a community near the Black Volta in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region.
The operation, led by the Upper West Regional Command of NACOC, followed intelligence provided by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service.
According to the Command, the team identified several locations suspected to be cannabis cultivation sites, with some of the plants already harvested while others were nearing maturity.
Further searches uncovered cannabis plants being cultivated in incomplete buildings, in front of residential properties and alongside maize crops.
The identified cannabis plants were subsequently destroyed by burning.
Following the operation, the joint team engaged community members in an education exercise on the dangers and consequences of cannabis cultivation and substance abuse.
Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information to help combat illicit drug activities in their communities.
