The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced that the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo (K1-K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project in Kumasi has reached 70% completion.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the two institutions said the project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.
The upgrade is aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
Planned Power Outages to Begin October 30
GRIDCo and ECG have announced planned power interruptions in some communities along the transmission line route to facilitate the safe installation of transmission conductors on towers.
The outages are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30, and continue until Sunday, November 29, 2026, excluding weekends.
Affected communities will experience interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on scheduled days when work reaches their respective sections.
ECG is expected to publish a detailed schedule indicating the affected communities and specific outage dates to help consumers plan ahead.
GRIDCo, ECG Appeal for Cooperation
The two institutions have acknowledged the inconvenience the planned interruptions may cause households, businesses and other electricity consumers.
They have appealed to affected communities for patience, understanding and cooperation, stressing that the temporary outages are necessary to protect workers and members of the public during the project.
GRIDCo and ECG have apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public of their commitment to completing the project safely and on schedule.
The upgrade forms part of efforts to strengthen the electricity transmission network and improve power supply reliability across the Ashanti Region.
