Court rejects Charles Bissue’s bid to throw out corruption charges

“Extend Period Of Investigations To Cover 2009 – 2015” – OSP Petitioned Over Auction Of Cars |

Former government official Charles Bissue has suffered a setback in his attempt to have corruption charges against him dismissed after a court rejected his legal arguments, describing the grounds as frivolous.

Mr Bissue, alongside Raphael Mensah and Dr Naa Dedei Tagoe, is facing nine counts relating to alleged corruption and abuse of public office.

In his latest challenge, Mr Bissue sought to dismiss the charges on three grounds: that an earlier case involving the matter remained pending, that the police had cleared him, and that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) lacked the authority to investigate cases that had not been referred to it by the police.

The court examined the first argument by requesting the original records of the earlier proceedings. The documents, dated July 3, 2025, showed that the case had been withdrawn and struck out.

However, Mr Bissue’s lawyer, Augustine Obour, disputed the records, arguing that he could not recall appearing in court on that date or seeing one of the accused persons during the proceedings.

The judge, however, maintained that the lawyer’s inability to remember the proceedings was not sufficient grounds to reject official court records.

Mr Obour subsequently withdrew his objection and asked the court to accept the records.

After considering the arguments advanced by the defence, the court dismissed all three grounds as frivolous, dealing a blow to Mr Bissue’s latest attempt to halt the prosecution.

The ruling means his challenge to the charges has failed at this stage, leaving the prosecution to proceed unless further legal action changes the course of the case.

Mr Bissue has pursued multiple legal challenges against the investigation and prosecution since 2023, as the case continues to move through the courts.

The charges against the three accused persons remain allegations, and their guilt or otherwise will be determined through the judicial process.
